ZipRecruiter and LinkedIn are both excellent platforms for promoting job openings, searching for new employees, or finding work as an employee. If you are looking to hire new employees, you may be wondering which site is best to use. In this article, we share the key features of these two sites and help you find the best option for your hiring or job searching needs.

ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter allows an employer to post one job to multiple online job boards at the same time. As a job seeker, you have the possibility of being selected for an interview with one of these jobs when you post your resume on the site. The service is free to job seekers and free to try for employers for four days.

ZipRecruiter FOR AN EMPLOYER

If you decide to use ZipRecruiter as an employer, you will have to choose a pricing option that works best for your company and exactly how many positions you’re trying to fill. ZipRecruiter claims that “80 percent of employers who post a job get a quality candidate through the site on the first day.”

You can set up payments either month-to-month, or annually, and alter or change your plan along the way. There is no limit on how many applications you can receive and you can also sort through resumes using the company’s dashboard.

You are given what they call a slot for each job posting. The amount of slots you get depends on the plan you go with, so the more you pay, the more job postings (slots) you can have. Once you fill a job with a slot you can start the process over again.

There is a TrafficBoost option that allows an employer to send out their job postings through email which ZipRecruiter says gets 3x more applicants. You also have the option to get top page placement for your posting.

ZIPRECRUITER FOR A JOB SEEKER

ZipRecruiter has the highest rated job-seeking app. Once you’ve signed up, you can search for jobs based on location, keyword, or salary. You’re encouraged to create a profile that is made public to the employers that you applied to. In addition to your resume you can add things like social handles, a profile picture, desired salary, and references; so it’s basically an expansion of your resume. Once your profile is complete you have the option of making it public, which means an employer could seek you out even if you did not apply.

As a job seeker, it is 100% free to create an account and search for jobs.

When you do apply to a job, it is almost like a text message window of dialogue between you and the employer which is a great way to establish communication.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is often seen as a networking platform. However, because of the networking opportunities, LinkedIn is an excellent site for both recruiters and job seekers.

LinkedIn For An Employer

As an employer looking to hire talent, there are a few different options on LinkedIn. If you are a small business looking to hire occasionally, the best option is to use job posts, also called LinkedIn Jobs. If you are a larger business, LinkedIn Recruiter may be a great solution for you.

LinkedIn Jobs

Using LinkedIn Jobs, you can post a job for free. You can also choose to promote your job posting to increase exposure. To promote a post, LinkedIn uses a pay-per-click model. LinkedIn uses data to match your job with a person’s skills, experience, and goals. This personalized targeting puts your job in front of relevant matches to make applying for your open position simple.

LinkedIn’s platform allows you to easily review candidates with filtering and management tools. You can rate individuals who are a good match, and then reach out to begin a conversation.

LinkedIn Recruiter

LinkedIn Recruiter is designed for larger companies with talent acquisition teams who hire multiple roles a year. LinkedIn Recruiter allows you to rotate an unlimited number of job posts during a 12-month period.

Unlike typical LinkedIn job posts, Recruiter offers advanced search filters and the ability to save searches, recommends candidate matches and the ability to prioritize candidates that are more likely to respond. LinkedIn does not disclose pricing online for Recruiter, so you need to request a call with their sales team to learn more.

If you opt to use LinkedIn Premium as a recruiter, it will cost $119.95 per month.

The Difference Between ZipRecruiter and LinkedIn As A Job Seeker

Both ZipRecruiter and LinkedIn have free options, so there is no reason not to search for job opportunities on both platforms. One item to note, when using ZipRecruiter, every job you apply for is through their platform. However, on LinkedIn, sometimes you need to apply through a company site, which can be more time-consuming.

Bottom Line

Both ZipRecruiter and LinkedIn are excellent options for both job seekers and employers.

As an employer, both ZipRecruiter and Linkedin are very similar.  For ZipRecruiter, you’re paying a premium to post to 100+ job boards. For LinkedIn, you can post a job for free, but have the option to promote a job.

As a job seeker, it is our recommendation to try both because they’re both free to use, and they both include different jobs you can search for.
