IT Technician Job Description Template

We are looking for an experienced IT Technician to provide computer support, maintain and upgrade computer systems, and diagnose and repair hardware and software issues. The successful candidate will have technical expertise, customer service skills, and the ability to solve complex problems with grace under pressure.

IT Technician Responsibilities

  • Provide helpdesk support for end users including customers and employees

  • Set up computer hardware and software for end users

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain computer systems and networks

  • Monitor network performance and security

  • Upgrade computer networks, hardware, and software for performance and security

  • Train users on computer and equipment use

IT Technician Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or certification in a relevant field

  • At least two years of experience providing multichannel computer support to end users

  • Technical knowledge, which may include database management systems (e.g., Oracle PL/SQL, Apache Hive), operating systems (e.g., iOS, Microsoft Windows Server), networking monitoring software (e.g., Wireshark, Nagios), and security software (e.g., McAfee, Norton)

  • Interpersonal skills including communication, customer service, multitasking, listening, and problem-solving skills

IT Technician Duties And Responsibilities

Provide Helpdesk Support For End Users

Help employees or customers resolve computer or network problems by walking them through the steps of diagnosing and repairing issues. Act as an expert resource for user questions and concerns. Ensure that users upgrade systems and software and back up data on a regular basis.

Install and Upgrade Computer Hardware and Software

Set up computer systems, mobile devices, hardware, software, and networks. Perform regular maintenance on computer equipment and ensure network security. Monitor and enforce user compliance with regular updates, password changes, and other security measures.

Train Users How To Use Software and Hardware

Teach customers and employees how to use new systems, software, and hardware. Develop training programs and procedures for current systems and programs. Act as a resource for team leads and individual contributors.

Troubleshoot and Resolve Computer and Network Issues
